David decided that he wanted to be a teacher at the tender age of 7 and his whole professional life has been within education, since qualifying as a teacher in 1992. David has worked extensively, but not exclusively, in the Primary and Prep domain in a variety of schools. He has been a Head of Music, Head of English, Head of Boarding, SENCo and, for 17 years, Deputy Head (Academic) in a 3-16 school.
David serves as a Reporting Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) so he is well-positioned to help schools to identify where to improve and to consider their ongoing performance.
David also holds a Level 7 CCPTA award at Masters level which allows him to assess pupils who may be concerned that they should receive access arrangements in public exams. This also allows David to be a member of the British Psychological Society.
David has successfully tutored many pupils who have requested support to meet their personal goals. He is vastly experienced at preparing pupils for 11+ or 13+ entrance exams. David has also worked extensively with pupils who have needed additional support at Primary level to build solid foundation blocks in English and Maths. Playing to his love of English, David has also successfully tutored many students to support their GCSE English aspirations. He is also hugely experienced at guiding pupils through study skills and revision techniques. With 15 years’ experience as a SENCo, and 17 years’ experience as a Deputy Head (Academic), David is equally well-placed to support pupils with academically-selective aspirations as he is supporting pupils who have additional learning needs.
David has taught in many regions of the country and is thrilled to have finally made it back to his northern roots in Harrogate – close to his beloved Leeds United, quite close to Lancashire cricket and a stone throw from his favourite Yorkshire and Northumbrian coastlines!
