Happy in any area of education, David would adamantly suggest that his happiest experiences have been inside the classroom, teaching pupils. As a natural extension to this, David has successfully and privately tutored pupils for many years, helping pupils to achieve their personal goals.

The most important part of the private tuition dynamic is the professional relationship between tutor and tutee. David will quickly take time to really get to know the pupil and will work with parents to identify the most appropriate programmes of study.

There is no question at all that working 1:1 with a pupil and helping them to find that “lightbulb moment” when new teaching or strategy suddenly falls into place is the number one most rewarding educational experience – for tutor and tutee! It is David’s ethos, mission and principle to help his tutees encounter multiple lightbulbs!

The confidence and self-esteem which can follow successful tutoring can be utterly inspiring. If a pupil needs a helping hand, then David will adopt a pupil-centred, fun and individual approach and use his extensive experience to really make a difference.

David’s tutoring experience broadly falls into four areas

11+ & 13+ PREPARATION

Bespoke 11+ and 13+ preparation for selective entrance tests. The entry requirements of the school will dictate what mix of verbal and nonverbal reasoning, English, maths, interview and “problem-solving challenge” is needed in tutoring sessions.
PRIMARY ENGLISH AND MATHS

Primary English and Maths consolidation or additional stretch. David has taught English to GCSE and Maths to Year 8 so he is well-placed to help pupils who need to consolidate the foundational blocks for strong literacy and numeracy. David is equally well-placed to extend and stretch pupils who are thirsty for additional challenge in the two core subjects.
GCSE ENGLISH LITERATURE AND LANGUAGE

GCSE English Preparation (Language and Literature). David’s has taught more English than any other subject. He adores English and has successfully tutored and supported students in Years 9, 10 and 11 who requested additional help to be able to secure the very best English GCSE grades possible.
REVISION AND STUDY SKILLS

Revision and Study Skills guidance. Having led a school for 17 years academically, David has rich experience in helping pupils to find appropriate study and revision skills – for general coursework and classwork and when exams loom on the horizon.
